Somatic Therapy in Brooklyn | Body-Based Healing in NYC

In-person sessions for when talk therapy isn’t enough
You know how to think your way through things — but your body still carries the weight. The tension that never softens. The overwhelm that spikes out of nowhere. The stuck places that keep showing up no matter how much insight you have.

Somatic therapy invites something different. It’s not about fixing or forcing — it’s about slowing down and listening to what your body’s been holding, and why. We depart from the story of circumstances and listen to the story within.

I’ve been practicing somatic therapy for over 13 years, working with people in Brooklyn and across NYC who are ready to include their bodies in the healing process. This work is experiential, collaborative, and deeply respectful of your pace. Whether you’re navigating trauma, stress, burnout, or a disconnection you can’t quite name — we start exactly where you are.

What Is Somatic Therapy — and Why Does It Help?

Somatic therapy starts from the premise that your body is just as involved in your experiences as your mind is — and even when we think we might be over something, the body that was wired to get through it hasn't forgotten. That means the anxiety, shutdown, or hurt you’re feeling might not be random, it might be your nervous system doing its best to protect you.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, somatic therapy works directly with the body’s responses — using sensation, movement, breath, and sometimes gentle touch — to help shift patterns that talking alone can’t always reach. We’re not trying to get rid of your symptoms. We’re building a relationship with them, so they can soften, integrate, and move.

This trauma-informed approach can support:

  • Chronic stress and anxiety that feels lodged in your body

  • Trauma responses like hypervigilance, emotional numbness, fight, flight, freeze and fawn

  • Panic and emotional flooding

  • Physical symptoms that crop up over and over

  • Relationship dynamics that seem to repeat themselves

  • Feeling disconnected from your emotions, body, or sense of self

  • Trouble understanding your feelings and communicating them

  • Self-regulation

You don’t need to have the right words. We’ll follow what your senses and  body shows us, at a pace that feels doable.

What to Expect in a 50-Minute In-Person Somatic Therapy Session

Each session is shaped around what’s showing up for you in the moment. That might mean we start with a story you’re carrying, or a sensation in your chest, or a way your body doesn’t want to be touched — all of it is welcome, and none of it is rushed.

Sessions may include:

  • Grounding and orienting to settle your nervous system

  • Mindful dialogue that helps you tune into sensation and emotion

  • Gentle, fully clothed touch to support awareness and safety

  • Seated or lying-down work depending on what your body needs

  • Integration of body-based modalities, including:

    • Somatic Experiencing techniques

    • Parts Dialogue

    • Bilateral movement and sound healing (as appropriate)

    • Sensorimotor art therapy for nonverbal processing

There’s no script. We follow your cues and your curiosity. Over time, many clients find that things begin to shift — not because we force it, but because we’ve built enough safety for your system to try something new.

With over 13 years of experience in somatic therapy, I bring deep training in body-based trauma work — and a commitment to working at your pace. My approach is integrative and flexible, drawing from multiple somatic modalities so we can find what resonates most with your system.

  • Trauma-informed, nervous-system centered care

  • Sessions are customized to each client, not protocol-driven

  • The therapeutic relationship is collaborative, not prescriptive

  • The space is welcoming, professional, and intentionally calming

A Body-Based Path to Healing

Somatic therapy can be especially meaningful if you:

  • Have tried traditional therapy but still feel stuck

  • Notice physical symptoms that seem tied to stress or trauma

  • Are craving a deeper connection to your body and emotions

  • Want healing that addresses root causes, not just surface patterns

  • Value an approach that respects the wisdom of your system

This work doesn’t promise instant results — but it does offer real movement, over time. Many clients begin to feel subtle shifts after just a few sessions: more regulation, more presence, less reactivity. A greater sense of possibility.

Healing doesn’t mean becoming someone else. It means returning to more of who you already are.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is somatic therapy different from talk therapy?

Somatic therapy works with the body as well as the mind. We include sensation, nervous system responses, and movement alongside language — which helps process experiences that can’t always be accessed through thinking alone.

What does the touch component involve?

Touch is always consensual, always clothed, and always optional. It might be as simple as a hand on the shoulder or back to support grounding. You’re in charge of what happens, and we’ll talk through everything beforehand.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people begin to notice shifts within 4–10 sessions. Some continue for longer-term support. We’ll check in regularly to see what’s working and what’s not.

Is somatic therapy covered by insurance?

Because this is an integrative body-based approach, it’s not currently covered by insurance.

Individual Somatic Therapy Sessions

Individual Somatic Therapy Sessions are offered in person and designed to meet you where you are. These 50-minute sessions are a blend of talk and touch, incorporating seated and lying-down work to support your nervous system in feeling more at ease while accessing, attuning and attending to traumas, stresses, fears and more. Rather than following a rigid structure, we move at a pace that feels right for you, with your felt sense as the guide. My role is to help you access and deepen that connection, creating space for healing that is both intuitive and grounded.

Each session is collaborative, creative, and experiential, weaving together Somatic Therapy, Parts Dialogue, Bi-Lateral movement, and sound. Depending on what emerges, we may also explore Sensorimotor art or sound frequencies to support deeper integration. Whether you're seeking relief from stress, a new way of relating to yourself, or a space to land in your body, these sessions offer a gentle yet powerful approach to healing.
